Firearm, explosive found in Masbate clash site

Two active members of the New People's Army on the most wanted list for murder were arrested in Pio V. Corpuz town in Masbate province on Sunday, April 9.

LEGAZPI CITY — Government forces recovered a firearm, an improvised explosive device (IED), and bullets after an encounter Monday with alleged members of New People’s Army (NPA) in Pio V. Corpus, Masbate province.

Lieutenant Colonel Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said in a belated report on Tuesday, April 25, that while the teams from the town police and the 2nd Police Mobile Force Company were on patrol, they had a 10-minute firefight at 11:27 a.m. with NPA rebels in Barangay Calong-ongan.

They recovered a black belt bag containing a .45 Colt pistol with three magazines and 22 live ammunition; an IED; a roll of detonation wire; empty shells for M203 and 7.62; four bullets for 7.62; combat boots, and other personal belongings.
