LEGAZPI CITY — Several firearms and rounds of ammunition were seized by government troops following an encounter with members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Esperanza, Masbate Saturday morning, the Philippine Army reported on Sunday.

Major John Paul Belleza, chief of the Public Affairs Office of the Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division, said the 2nd Infantry Battalion had a 7-minute firefight with six NPA rebels in Barangay (village) Magsaysay at around 6:45 a.m.

Belleza said concerned citizens informed the military of the presence of the rebels in the area.

No one was hurt on the government side during the clash.
