COVID-19 positivity rate in NCR increases to 10.6 percent

MANILA, Philippines — The weekly COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila increased to 10.6 percent, according to Octa Research fellow Guido David on Tuesday.

The said rate, which was recorded from April 17 to 23, is higher than the recorded 7-day positivity rate of 7.3 percent on April 16 and it’s double the World Health Organization’s ideal threshold for positivity rate of five percent.

“The NCR had an average of 3,120 tests per day (in April 2022 testing in the NCR was at 11k per day),” said David in data posted through Twitter.

Despite the rise in infections, David said that hospital occupancy remained low at 21 percent.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday reported a total of 3,148 infections of COVID-19 from April 17 to 23, higher than the 2,386 infections recorded the previous week.

This translated to a daily average of 450, which is 32 percent higher than the 241 daily average cases recorded from April 10 to 16.

Based on the DOH’s online COVID-19 tracker as of April 24, the country’s total COVID-19 caseload is currently at 4,089,394, with 4,018,614 recoveries, 66,444 deaths and 4,336 active infections.
