KORONADAL CITY, Sultan Kudarat — Two unidentified gunmen shot dead an off-duty officer inside a roadside carenderia in Barangay Fatima, General Santos City on Thursday night.

General Santos City police director Col. Jomar Alexis Yap strongly condemned the murder of Cpl. Razul Alongan, 48, an intelligence officer of Police Station 5.

He said two men posed as customers of the roadside carenderia at about 10:30 p.m. and shot Alongan in the head without provocation.

“The suspects fled on board a Honda Wave motorcycle towards the direction of Purok Placida, Barangay Calumpang,” Yap said, adding that a manhunt operation is continuing.

Alongan was immediately rushed to the General Santos Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

“We condemn the senseless and brutal killing of Police Officer Alongan, who left two children and a grieving wife,” Yap said.

He said the probe into the motive and identities of the attackers is ongoing even as he appealed to anyone who has information about the murder to help the local police.

Soccsksargen region police director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg was saddened about the attack.

“I strongly condemn this cowardly act of lawlessness. I will make sure that Cpl Alongan’s family will be served with justice and make the suspects liable for the crime they have committed,” Macaraeg said in a statement.
