MANILA, Philippines — A man was arrested while his cohort managed to escape after allegedly stealing P45,000-worth of cable wires owned by a telecom giant in Las Piñas City, the police said Friday.
In a report, the Southern Police District (SPD) said suspect Tristan Gempis was nabbed early Friday morning after he and his accomplice, only identified as “Tayman,” purportedly cut and took aerial copper cable wires of Globe Telecom along Apitong Street in Barangay Pamplona Tres.
Tayman evaded arrest as he managed to flee the scene, the police report noted.
The SPD said authorities seized from the arrested suspect a 2.5-meter-long cable wire valued at around P45,209, a hacksaw blade, and long nose pliers, which were later turned over to the Pamplona police sub-station as evidence.
Gempis is under the custody of the Pamplona police while complaints for theft are being readied against him.
Police, meanwhile, are hunting down Tayman. —Maria Liezl Projella, trainee
