Alleged communist rebel surrenders in Zambales

A farmer in San Marcelino town, Zambales province has severed ties with the communist rebels after surrendering to authorities, police said Thursday, April 20.

OLONGAPO CITY—A farmer in San Marcelino town, Zambales province has severed ties with the communist rebels after surrendering to authorities, police said Thursday, April 20.

In a report, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) identified the rebel as “Ka Julie,” a former member of the Sangay Yunit Guerilla/Provincial Yunit Guerilla under the Bagong Hukbong Bayan.

The PRO3 said the rebel group operates in Zambales.

Ka Julie also turned over a .38 caliber revolver, live ammunition, and a hand grenade.

According to PRO3, two other former rebels surrendered to the government on the same day in Angeles City and Floridablanca, both in Pampanga province.
