MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 positivity rate in the country spiked to 8.5 percent, according to independent analytics group OCTA Research on Wednesday.
According to OCTA fellow Guido David, citing data from the Department of Health (DOH), there are 382 new cases, bringing up the nationwide positivity to 8.5 percent from Tuesday’s 7.6 percent.

“8.5 [percent] nationwide positivity rate,” said David in a Twitter post.
David projects 600 to 700 new cases on Thursday. In a separate Tweet, David said this is “not a surge according to DOH metrics.”
“It is rising,” David noted.
Meanwhile, the DOH’s latest data said active cases are now 8,252.
The Philippines has had a total of 4,086,981 cases, with 4,012,286 recoveries and 66,443 deaths.
Recently, the DOH allowed the general population’s second booster shot to vaccinate more community sectors.
