MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) will soon deploy 147 more immigration officers to major airports nationwide.

“This is part of our continuing goal of improving our manpower by maximizing our plantilla,” BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said in a statement Wednesday.

The BI officers should first undergo on-site training at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport starting April 24, he noted.

He added that the initial training will be followed by training to improve their hard and soft skills.

“We want a more holistic approach in our training for our officers,” said Tansingco. “Apart from theoretical training, we want to increase our training in other skills, like communication and conflict resolution, which are very important in the conduct of their duties.” —Maria Lizyl Projella, trainee
