MANILA, Philippines — Authorities have arrested eight people in Makati City over illegal gambling and drugs, and confiscated at least P1.1 million worth of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth), the Southern Police District (SPD) said Tuesday.
Based on Makati City Police Station’s report, Poblacion Substation personnel received a tip from a concerned citizen that a group was engaged in illegal gambling activities at Bernardino St., Laperal Compound, Barangay Guadalupe Viejo.
The police acted on the information and collared the suspects identified as Jake dela Vega, 24; Ryan Sularte, 38; Roderick Gayacao, 53; Kaitlyn Gabaya, 25; Amador Romasanta, 52; Mary Grace Roldan, 38; Rose Ann Lopez, 36; and Joy Espayos, 40, within the compound early morning of April 17.
Seized from the suspects were three pieces of eight medium and seven small plastic sachets of suspected shabu with an approximate weight of 164.93 grams and an estimated value of P1,121,524, the police report noted.
Aside from the illegal drug, lawmen also confiscated one digital weighing scale and three pieces of coins used as flippers, and bet money worth almost P2,000.
According to the SPD, the suspects and recovered pieces of evidence were brought to the Poblacion Substation 6 for proper documentation. It added that the case was referred to the police’s Investigation and Detection Management.
