MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) on Monday said that the construction of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project is already 82.7 percent completed as of March 2023.
The project aims to add eight more stations to the existing line and cut the travel time from Pasay City to Cavite from an hour and a half to just around 30 minutes, with the first phase including the Redemptorist Station, MIA Station, Asiaworld Station, Ninoy Aquino Station, and Dr. Santos station.

According to the LRMC in a statement, the construction of five new stations is currently in various stages of development, with Redemptorist Station registering 56 percent completion, MIA Station with 61 percent, Asia World with 51 percent, Ninoy Aquino Station with 55 percent, and Dr. Santos Station with 60 percent.

“We remain optimistic that we can start commercial operations of Phase 1 by the fourth quarter of 2024, highlighting the continuous milestones being achieved by our team. The target this year is to complete all civil and equipment installation works so we can focus on commissioning the entire line by next year,” said LRMC President and CEO Juan Alfonso.
“Despite the challenges we have encountered, we remain focused and committed to delivering on our promise of upgrading the commuter experience,” he added.

The construction of the extension began in September 2019, with the LRMC stating that it has already invested over P30 billion in capital improvement projects not just for the construction of the Cavite Extension but for the steady improvement of the existing LRT-1 system, as well.
The 11.8-kilometer extension project covers major cities such as Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila, Pasay, and Parañaque and is designed to cater to up to 800,000 passengers daily.
After the completion of the first phase, LRMC will proceed with the second phase consisting of Las Piñas Station and Zapote Station, and then the third and last phase, which is the Niog Station.
