Pampanga legal officer wounded in gun attack

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) on Wednesday said that it will distribute 310 hectares of idle government owned-lands (GOLs) to the farmers of San Agustin town in Magalang, Pampanga.

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — Two helmet-wearing men fired several shots Monday at the Pampanga provincial legal officer in the parking lot of a hospital in the City of San Fernando.

A police report obtained by the Inquirer identified the victim as lawyer Gerome Tubig.

Police said Tubig arrived around 7:30 a.m. at the parking lot in front of VL Makabali Memorial Hospital along B. Mendoza Road in downtown San Fernando on board his car when two men aboard a black and red Yamaha Aerox motorcycle arrived and fired at his car several times.

The still-unidentified assailants immediately fled toward the MacArthur Highway.

It was not known what gun caliber was used in the attack.

Police said Tubig was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.

Provincial Administrator and lawyer Charlie Chua told the Inquirer in a text message that the provincial government had yet to issue a statement on the frustrated murder of Tubig.

He said Tubig was in the intensive care unit.

Another source said the provincial legal officer would undergo surgery, also on Monday.

The San Fernando police issued a flash alarm against the assailants after receiving the shooting incident report and were still conducting follow-up operations for their capture. INQ
