MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Wednesday said it would implement measures to lessen the impact of the impending El Niño phenomenon, including water-related infrastructure, according to the agency concurrently headed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Under the 2023 El Niño Mitigation and Adaptation Plan, the DA said it would also be promoting drought-tolerant and early maturing crops, organic fertilizer, and the adjustment of planting calendars.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration recently said El Niño would likely hit the country in the latter part of this year, and persist until 2024.
