MANILA, Philippines — Seventy-eight drownings were recorded nationwide from April 2 to April 10, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Wednesday.
Among the 78 incidents, 53 were rescued by PCG’s first responders, 21 lost their lives, and four are missing, the PCG said in a statement.
According to the PCG, five people drowned on April 8 in Barangay Dolo, San Jose, Camarines Sur, the worst case reported during Holy Week.
The biggest rescue operation was in Barangay Sabang, Vinzons, Camarines Norte, on April 8, Saturday where first responders saved 27 individuals from drowning, the PCG said.
The agency is conducting a search and rescue operation by the PCG in Antique, Camarines Sur, Leyte, and Catanduanes, where the remaining four missing victims were reported.
The PCG added that no incident had been recorded in Northeastern Mindanao, Southwestern Mindanao, BARMM, Central Visayas, and Palawan. —MJ Soriano, INQUIRER.net trainee
