Albay road impassable due to heavy rains from TD Amang

A 21-year-old woman drowned while swimming in a river in Sto. Domingo town in Albay on Easter Sunday, April 9.

LEGAZPI CITY — Continuous heavy rains on Wednesday morning brought by Tropical Depression Amang triggered floods and toppled trees in Guinobatan and Sto. Domingo towns in Albay province.

At 10 a.m., trees fell on the road in Barangay Calayucay in Sto. Domingo.

Mayor Joseling Aguas Jr. advised motorists going to Manhattan Beach Resort to take precautions.

In Guinobatan, roads in barangays Tandarora, Masarawag, and Maninila were impassable due to floods.

As of 11 a.m., 379 families (1,149 persons) from Tandarora and Maninila were evacuated in Mauraro Community College, while eight families (20 individuals) were evacuated to private houses due to the threats of flooding and lahar flow, Guinobatan Vice Mayor Ann Gemma Ongjoco said.

At 8 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Southern Luzon issued a yellow rainfall warning in Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, and Camarines Sur, which means flooding was possible in low-lying areas and near river channels.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said Amang was last located over the coastal waters of Caramoan, Camarines Sur with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
