THE Department of Tourism (DOT) has identified Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental and Fort San Pedro in Cebu City as among the destinations to visit in the country to promote the “Lakbay Jose Rizal @ 150 Heritage Trail.”
In line with the 150th birth anniversary of the national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the Dumaguete City government invited foreign and local tourists to visit and rediscover the sites that once became part of Rizal’s life.
City Tourism officer Andrey Tumulak said Rizal had visited Dumaguete City on board his boat SS España. Rizal then met with Negros Island Governor Regal and a classmate Herrero Regidor.
Tumulak is encouraging foreign and local tourists to travel as pilgrims for the Lakbay Jose Rizal @ 150 and visit the sites promoted in tour brochures.
The first 100 pilgrims who have visited all the sites promoted in the travel brochure will receive a token and “Kalakbay ni Gat Jose Rizal” certificate, provided that they can show stamps to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines as proof of their visit.
The stamping on the brochure started from June 19, 2011 to June 19, 2012.
