PCG identified the survivors as Clemente Duran and Jackson Gonzaga, both residents of Lucena City, Quezon.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued two people from a sunken boat off the coasts of San Juan town in Batangas and Sariaya town in Quezon, the agency said Tuesday.

PCG identified the survivors as Clemente Duran, 40, and Jackson Gonzaga, 35, both Lucena City, Quezon residents.

From a report, the coast guard said the water penetrated their boat due to strong waves en route to Brgy. Dalahican, Lucena City.

“Kwento nila, napasukan ng tubig ang kanilang bangka dahil sa malakas na alon, hanggang sa tuluyan itong lumubog,” PCG said in a statement.

(According to the rescued individuals, the water entered their banca caused by the strong waves until it sank.)

The victims managed to seek help from authorities using their mobile phones, said PCG.

After the rescuers made sure they were in good physical condition, they were sent back to their families. —Maria Liezl Projella, trainee
