LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — A 25-year-old man drowned on Easter Sunday, April 9, at the Madongan Dam in Marcos town in this province, police said.

In a report, investigators identified the fatality as Jerry Jontanilla from nearby Banna town, who was  drunk when he and a companion went swimming around 5 p.m. in a river inside the dam in Cacafean village.

Police said Jontanilla went missing for an hour after the river current swept him away, prompting his companion to report the incident to authorities.

Jontanilla’s body was retrieved after a joint operation by the Marcos police, firefighters, and medical responders.

The man was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician when he was brought to a district hospital. INQ
