TAGUM CITY — Three people, including a pregnant woman, died before dawn on Maundy Thursday when a village patrol car collided with a passenger bus near a public market in this city, police said.
Killed were village watchmen Jhoniel Gallo and Felix Lapitan, all of La Filipina village; and 21-year old Christina Mahilom, of Mankilam village.
Two others were injured.
Quoting a report from the Tagum police, Major Eudisan Gultian, Davao region police spokesperson, said the mishap happened at 12:50 a.m. at an intersection along the Tagum Circumferential Road in Barangay Magugpo West.
Gultiano said a Metro Shuttle bus with plate number NBJ-2980, driven by Ernie Reconalla, 44, of Davao City, was traveling to the Tagum public terminal when its right side was bumped by the front hood of a white L300 van of Barangay La Filipina (1101-1024363) driven by village watchman Roy Salazar.
The village patrol car was reportedly on its way to transport the woman to the hospital when the mishap happened.
The impact caused the patrol vehicle to tumble on its side on the road while the bus swerved to its left and slammed against the road’s center island.
Salazar and another passenger, Renz Abellana, of Maco, Davao de Oro, are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The bus driver is now under custody as investigation into the mishap is underway, police said.
