OCTA: COVID-19 positivity rate rises to 7.1%

MANILA, Philippines — The national COVID-19 positivity rate has risen to 7.1 percent, according to OCTA Research fellow Guido David.

David has previously observed an increase in the COVID-19 positivity rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) and 14 other provinces.

“7.1 [percent] nationwide positivity. 64 cases in NCR,” he said in a Twitter post on Wednesday night.

According to David, there is projected to be 400 to 500 new cases on Maundy Thursday.

The Department of Health (DOH) had reported 176 new cases of COVID-19 nationwide on Wednesday, bringing up the country’s total recorded cases to 4,082,580.

There have also been six more COVID-19 related deaths, with four of them coming from Metro Manila alone, said David while citing DOH data.

The DOH has also observed an uptick of COVID-19 cases from March 27 to April 2, with a total of 1,721 infections. This was an increase from the week before that, which had total infections of 1,298 new cases.
