Over 14,000 drivers warned for using motorcycle lanes on Commonwealth Avenue

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday announced that the resolution on the creation of a motorcycle lane in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City has already been approved, albeit with a few revisions.

MANILA, Philippines — More than 14,000 four-wheeled vehicle drivers have been warned for using the exclusive motorcycle lane on Commonwealth Avenue, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

As of March 23, the MMDA has apprehended a total of 18,869 motorists for drifting away from their designated lanes since the dry run began on March 9. Of these, 14,694 were four-wheel vehicle drivers, and 4,175 were motorcycle riders who were outside the designated lane.

The dry run will end on March 26, and the MMDA will begin imposing fines for violators on its official implementation on March 27.

If the dry run proves to be a success, the MMDA said it might designate dedicated motorcycle lanes on other highways.

The MMDA has urged motorists to follow traffic rules and avoid using the motorcycle lane to ensure a smooth traffic flow and all road users’ safety.
