Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Task Force Special Operations chief Edison “Bong” Nebrija was caught off guard by a one-of-a-kind wedding invitation which he mistook for a disconnection notice from the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).
On March 14, Nebrija posted on Facebook a photo of the cleverly designed wedding invitation he received. The invitation came in a white envelope that ingeniously resembled the monthly electricity bill.
The wedding invitation had a logo that imitated the official logo of the power firm, but the word beneath it read “Mahalco” (my love) instead of “Meralco.”
Aside from the logo, the “notice of invitation” closely mirrored a real billing statement since the wedding information was formatted similarly to how a mailing address appeared on a Meralco bill.
The wedding invitation was from groom and bride-to-be radio correspondent-anchor Luisito Antonio Santos and radio disc jockey (DJ) Joy Babor.
“Pambihara LA and Joy, pinakaba [niyo] ako dun ah. Akala ko Meralco, ngayon pala Mahalco! (LA and Joy, you made me feel nervous. I thought it was Meralco, but it was Mahalco!) Hahaha the most unique invitation I ever had,” Nebrija wrote in his post.
As of this writing, Nebrija’s post has already amassed more than 10,000 reactions from social media users and has also been shared at least 1,500 times on social media.
“Kinakabahan ka rin pala minsan (So you also get nervous sometimes), Sir,” a netizen commented on the post.
“Hahaha tumibok ang puso [ko] (my heart pounded),” Nebrija responded.
Babor, who is also known as DJ Lyka Barista, also commented on her future godfather’s post and said in jest, “‘Nong, may disconnection notice ‘yan sa loob. Wag [mong] kalimutan bayaran ha? Este pumunta sa wedding day.”
(Godfather, it has a disconnection notice inside. Don’t forget to pay for it. I mean, to go to our wedding day.)
Another social media user replied to Babor’s comment and said, “Madam Lyka Barista, ‘pag ‘di [siya nakapunta sa kasal niyo], ticketan niyo (if he did not come to your wedding, give him a ticket).”
