MANILA, Philippines — A container full of counterfeit goods declared as “garments” worth P48.9-million was seized at the Sub-Port of Mindanao Container Terminal in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental on February 1, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cagayan de Oro (CDO) reported.

According to a report from the BOC, a control order had been issued against the shipment after authorities received an intelligence report for possible violation of R.A. 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code concerning the contents of the container.

An examination of the shipment revealed that the container hides 288 cartons of trousers branded “Zara” and 342 cartons as “Guess,” which were later confirmed as fake.

“These counterfeit products do not have the required documentation, and they endanger the safety of those who use them,” Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said.

A warrant of seizure and detention was issued against the subject shipment for violation of R.A. 8293. Denver Godezano, INQUIRER.net trainee
