Police trucks, buses sent out for Metro Manila’s stranded commuters

/ 11:53 PM June 23, 2011

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police chief Raul Bacalzo has ordered the deployment of all available police trucks, buses, troop carriers and rescue vehicles to assist stranded commuters in Metro Manila as a result of the day-long rains spawned by Tropical Storm “Falcon” and a new low pressure area.

Bacalzo, in a statement released at past 10 p.m., said that he has also ordered the Special Action Force, Maritime Group, Highway Patrol Group, Logistics Support Service and the National Headquarters Contingency Battalion to be prepared for deployment to flooded areas.

The heavy rains rendered several roads in Metro Manila unpassable.
