Floods hit most of Metro Manila–MMDA

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said that it was monitoring floods in several areas due to heavy rains.

Ed Garcia an officer of the Flood Control division of the MMDA said that there was no improvement in the rising level of water from the Talayan Creek which made Araneta Avenue, particularly the corner of Maria Clara and NS Amoranto unpassable. “Lagpas tao na ang tubig dito,” said Garcia.

In Manila, Espana corner Blumentritt had gutter-level water while that on Espana corner Lacson was knee-level, added Garcia. He said that Lagusnilad was not passable to all types of vehicles.

Garcia said that in Makati City, Buendia-Mayapis was not passable to light vehicles.

He said that information from civilians near Casino Filipino and SM Sucat also reported flooding in these areas.

Citing reports from the National Capital Region Police Office, Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr identified flooded areas in Metro Manila.

From the Northern Police District: Valenzuela, particularly Pio del Pilar, as well as in Caloocan, specifically Libis Espina, May Pio A. Mabini.

From the Eastern Police District: San Juan, specifically along A. Luna St., F. Ramon St., C. Leyva Barangay (village) Balong Bato, and F. Manalo. In Marikina, the flooded areas include Lilac St. Katipunan Avenue Barangay Concepcion 2, JP Laurel corner Chestnut San Roque.

Cruz said flooding was also reported in Mandaluyong, particularly F. Ortigas, Boni, and San Joaquin.

He added that the Manila Police District reported floods in Quezon Boulevard, southbound of V. Mapa, Boni Shrine fronting City Hall, RM Pureza, Uba Intramuros, and Kalaw.

Meanwhile, the Quezon City Police District said there was flooding in Mayon Dapitan, Sto. Domingo corner Calamba, Rivera corner San Pedro, West Riverside corner Valencia St. SFDM.

Still citing police reports from the NCRPO, Cruz said that the Southern Police District identified Mayapis corner Malugay, Pasong Tamo to JP Rizal southbound as the areas affected by floods.
