LUCENA CITY — Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives arrested on Monday, March 20, a barangay chairman in Bay town in Laguna province for illegal possession of firearms.
The Police Region 4A reported that CIDG operatives, armed with a search warrant, swooped down around 7 a.m. on the house of Angelito de Mesa, chief of Barangay Masaya.
The raiders seized a caliber 5.56mm (M16) rifle with telescope, suppressor, three magazines, and 85 bullets; one caliber .9mm machine pistol, a magazine and 20 bullets; one caliber .45 pistol, two magazines, and 15 bullets.
Judge Agripino Bravo of the Regional Trial Court in Lucena City issued the search warrant on March 17.
De Mesa, an ex-officio member of the municipal council as president of the association of barangay captains, was detained and is facing charges of violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
