Man drowns after boat sank off Camarines Sur town

LEGAZPI CITY – A 54-year-old man heading home drowned on Tuesday when the boat he was on sank off the coast of Siruma town in Camarines Sur.

Captain Mark Anthony Cledera, chief of Siruma police, said in a phone interview Wednesday (March 15) that Ricky Sarmiento, a resident of Barangay (village) San Ramon, was found floating in the municipal waters off Siruma town around 6:45 p.m.

Cledera told Inquirer that Sarmiento left their house on Monday to have a drinking spree in Barangay San Antonio in Tinambac town, 1.5 kilometers away from his residence.

Initial investigation said the victim, who boarded his boat and was steering it using a paddle, possibly encountered strong waves while going home which resulted in the sinking of the boat.
