2 women dead in Quezon shootings

LUCENA CITY – Two women were killed in separate shooting incidents in Quezon province on Monday night (March 13), police said Tuesday (March 14).

Elena Medalla, 62, was having a drink with her relatives on the balcony of her house in Barangay (village) San Diego in Buenavista town around 9:50 p.m., the Quezon police said.

Suddenly, a still unidentified suspect fired a shotgun, hitting Medalla on her back. The bullet exited her chest.

The gunman fled after the shooting while the victim died as she was being taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, in Barangay Janagdong 2 in Sariaya town, Angelina Limen, 46, was also shot and killed after she stepped out of her house to investigate why their dog kept barking around 11:55 p.m.

But after she opened the door, she was immediately shot by the unidentified gunman who escaped after the shooting.

She was taken to Lucena United Doctors Hospital in neighboring Lucena City but died along the way.

Investigators found one empty bullet shell from a caliber .45 pistol at the scene of the crime.

Policemen in Buenavista and Sariaya are conducting further investigations to unmask the gunmen and established the motive behind the killings.
