MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Tuesday said that it is continuing its upgrades on several airports with some projects already completed in an effort to ensure the safety and convenience of passengers.
In a statement released by the Department of Transportation on Tuesday, CAAP said that the upgrades are part of the efforts of the agency to match the demand for air traffic in the country while striving to secure the safety, reliability, and convenience of passengers and operators in its airports.
Ongoing projects include the Laguindingan Airport, specifically, the construction of a new entry and exit arch, as well as a guard house with six portable and four stilted posts set to be installed on the land and air side of the airport.
Meanwhile, Laguindingan Airport manager Job De Jesus, in the same statement, said that the construction of communal toilets and food stalls, installation of new LED lights, and construction of an accounting office have already been completed.
“With the goal to address the increasing demand of the public for more accessible restrooms, and the availability of a variety of food cuisine notably from Northern Mindanao, the project of adding communal toilets at the Parking Area and the construction of food stalls were recognized,” De Jesus said.
Acting Area Center XI – Davao International Airport (DIA) manager Rex Obcena, on the other hand, reported the completed expansion of the north wing of the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) check-in area, which was opened on Feb. 28.
CAAP said that it has also rerouted the airport’s ingress or entrance access for departing passengers at the PTB’s newly constructed north wing through its Engineering Department and Security and Intelligence Service.
“Restroom facilities in the PTB have also been improved to serve passengers better,” said CAAP. — Mae Anne F. Bilolo, intern
