2 dead in Batangas road mishaps
LUCENA CITY — A motorcycle rider and a male beggar died in separate road mishaps on Sunday and Monday, March 5 and 6, in Batangas province.
In a report, the Batangas police said the motorcyclist, identified as Ace Vergel Lucero, 24, and his unidentified back-rider were side-swiped at around 3 a.m. Monday by a car driven by Azele Lirio, 36, in a section of the Maharlika Highway in Barangay San Felix in Sto. Tomas City.
Due to the impact of the collision, the motorcycle crashed into a steel gate at the side of the highway.
The two riders suffered injuries and rushed to the nearest hospital, but Lucero was declared dead on arrival.
In neighboring Tanauan City, the police reported that a still-unidentified male beggar died Sunday morning after being hit by a passing vehicle driven by Jay-Ar Agojo, 25, in Barangay Ambulong.
