MANILA, Philippines — All is set for this week’s three-day National Election Summit, which seeks to gather recommendations on how to improve the Philippine electoral system, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The summit, which will be held on March 8 to 10 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City, is expected to gather around 400 attendees, including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
“We have several issues to discuss, including teachers as electoral board members, curriculum integration of voters education, how to proceed with the automated elections, budget for the elections, election offenses, as well as vote buying,” Comelec chair George Garcia said.
Other high-ranking officials invited include Vice President Sara Duterte, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, among others.
Garcia said even ordinary Filipinos are welcome to attend the event.
“Everyone who has an idea how to improve our election system is invited,” he said.
The summit’s objective is to provide a platform for a national dialogue and interaction with consultation and participation of election stakeholders in the review, formulation, or enhancement of policies, plans, and programs in election administration and electoral enforcement and adjudication, the poll body said.
