Bicol U has a new president

LEGAZPI CITY — The Bicol University (BU) Board of Regents on Friday elected Baby Boy Benjamin Nebres III as the academic institution’s 9th president.
The election was held during the board meeting at the Commission on Higher Education in Diliman, Quezon City.
Nebres, 47, will replace outgoing BU president Arnulfo Mascariñas, who will end his term on March 8.
Nebres is the current dean of the Office of the Student Affairs and Services of the university.
The other candidates were Lawyer Joseph Bartolata, the vice president for administration and finance; Arnulfo Malinis, administrator of the Center for Technology Commercialization and Enterprise Development; Lawyer Alex Nepomuceno, dean of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy; and Dr. Ofelia Samay-Sy, dean of the College of Medicine.
The incoming BU president earned his sociology degree in 1997 and doctor of education degree in 2008 at BU.
