MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a show cause order (SCO) to the two drivers involved in two different vehicular accidents in Caloocan and Makati, said the agency on Friday.

Both accidents took place in February 2022, said the LTO. The accident in Makati involved a truck and a motorcycle, which left the motorcycle’s 23-year-old backrider dead.

The accident in Caloocan involved three vehicles, an SUV, a sedan and a tricycle. The 65-year-old male driver of the tricycle and his 50-year-old female passenger died, while the 50-year-old driver of the sedan sustained injuries, said the LTO.

“LTO-[National Capital Region] West Regional Director Roque “Rox” I. Verzosa III said both drivers may face appropriate punishment, such as reckless driving and driving an unregistered motor vehicle, pursuant to [Republic Act] 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code,” said the office.

The LTO had previously issued SCOs for drivers involved in two different vehicle accidents in the cases. These drivers were found to be recklessly driving and consequently fined P2,000.

“Pwedeng mangyari ang road accident kahit kanino. Kaya pinagsisikapan nating pababain ang bilang nito sa pamamagitan ng pag-educate sa mga motorista,” said Verzosa.

(Road accidents could happen to anyone. We are trying to lower these numbers by educating motorists.)
