Taguig to give free rides during transport strike

The city government of Taguig announced on Friday that it would deploy "Libreng Sakay" vehicles to assist its citizens who might be affected by the week-long transport strike on March 6.

MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Taguig announced on Friday that it would deploy “Libreng Sakay” vehicles to assist its citizens who might be affected by the week-long transport strike on March 6.

According to reports, despite the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) extension of the traditional jeepney phaseout until December 31, an estimated 40,000 public utility vehicles (PUVs) in Metro Manila will still participate in a week-long strike on Monday in protest of the government’s PUV modernization program.

In a statement, the city government said it would deploy vehicles with “Libreng Sakay hatid ng City of Taguig” and its official logos.

“Libreng Sakay” initiative is led by Mayor Lani Cayetano and will start on March 6 until 12, from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, below is the city’s list of routes with Libreng Sakay:

  • Bagumbayan to Cayetano Blvd. corner General Luna (vice versa)
  • Napindan/Tipas/Sta. Ana to Cayetano Blvd. corner General Luna (and vice versa)
  • Waterfun to Market-Market (and vice versa)
  • Waterfun to Gate-3 (and vice versa)
  • Department of Science and Technology to Market-Market (and vice versa)
  • BCDA Petron to Market-Market (and vice versa)
  • Cayetano corner Gen. Luna to Petron BCDA

Other cities that will also implement “Libreng Sakay” are Valenzuela and Caloocan.
