The advisory body conducting a secretive probe of senior Philippine National Police (PNP) officials said it is moving at an “unprecedented” pace and has already screened a third of the more than 900 colonels and generals.
During its second meeting on Wednesday, March 1, in Camp Crame, Quezon City, the five-man committee processed 217 senior police officers “after thorough evaluation,” while the remaining more than 600 are set to be evaluated in the coming weeks either in person or through video conferencing, according to Col. Redrico Maranan, PNP public information office chief.
All five members were present during the meeting: PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., retired police general and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Military Affairs Undersecretary Isagani Nerez, retired Court of Appeals Justice Melchor Sadang, and former Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro.
A total of 335 high-ranking PNP officials have been assessed by the panel since its first meeting on February 24.—DEXTER CABALZA
