MANILA, Philippines — The body of a 6-year-old boy was fished out of La Huerta River in Parañaque City Thursday morning, police said.
Senior Police Officer 1 Reynaldo Lorzano of the Parañaque City Police Community Precinct 2 (PCP 2) said that fisherman Eduardo Baydo found Bonifacio Humeres’ body floating in the river near the Bulungan Fisherman’s Wharf at around 5 a.m., almost 12 hours after he fell into the river while playing with his friends in Sto. Nino village.
The boy was last seen playing with his friends at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Lorzano said, citing the statement of the boy’s parents. A report from the Southern Police District stated that the boy was trying to retrieve his slippers but tripped and fell into the river.
SPD spokeswoman Chief Inspector Jenny Tecson said that members of the Philippine National Police Maritime Group had tried to rescue the victim after the parents sought their help.
“But the current was too strong and he was swept away. They could not find him,” said Lorzano.
