Moderate to intense rainfall expected in some parts of PH until Sunday

Some parts of the country will experience moderate to intense rainfall from Thursday evening (November 28) to Sunday (December 1) due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and shear line, the state weather bureau said on Thursday.

MANILA, Philippines — Some parts of the country will experience moderate to intense rainfall from Thursday evening (November 28) to Sunday (December 1) due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and shear line, the state weather bureau said on Thursday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) previously said that a shear line would occur when the northeast monsoon or “amihan” converges with easterlies or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.

In its 5 p.m. weather advisory, Pagasa said that the following affected areas will be:

Thursday to Friday afternoon

Moderate to heavy rainfall (50-100 millimeters of rain)

Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon

Heavy to intense rainfall (100-200 mm)

Moderate to heavy rainfall

Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon

Moderate to heavy rainfall

Pagasa warned of possible impacts of the rainfall where moderate to heavy rainfall may bring localized flooding mainly in urbanized, low-lying and coastal areas while landslides are likely in highly susceptible areas.

The agency also said that heavy to intense rainfall are likely to bring numerous flooding events especially in urbanized, low-lying and coastal areas while landslides are possible in moderate to highly susceptible areas.

Pagasa in its 5 p.m. weather briefing said that shear line and ITCZ are currently affecting the country, bringing rains to most parts of the country.

Most parts of Luzon will experience the surge of northeast monsoon while rains are likely in most parts of Mindanao and Visayas due to the ITCZ.
