House Assistant Minority Leader Arlene Brosas sought a public apology from Sen. Robinhood Padilla who claimed he could no longer engage in “panchi-chicks (womanizing)” working in the legislature, a pronouncement which “reeked of misogyny and toxic masculinity.”
In a statement, Gabriela Women’s party list Rep. Brosas said, “In an apparent attempt to deflect concerns from Charter Change, Sen. Robin Padilla resorted to uncalled for macho theatrics.”
She noted that it was Padilla who initially pushed for federalism, a political amendment to the 1987 Constitution, upon his election as senator.
According to Brosas, “We would like to remind Senator Robin Padilla that his job is to address gaps in current laws and not womanizing. Women should not be treated like mere objects that men can use [in] their spare time.”
She further stressed, “His statement is unbecoming of a public official, and a violation of the Code of Conduct for Public Officials which states that public officials must uphold the public interest over and above personal interest,” adding, “Moreover, it reeks of misogyny and toxic masculinity which should not be tolerated in this society.”
