MANILA, Philippines — The League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) will file a resolution denouncing the ambush of the convoy of Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr., which killed four people.

In a statement on Wednesday, the LPP said the incident was discussed during its third general assembly on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The LPP also expressed “heartfelt condolences” to the bereaved kin of those killed in the attack — Adiong’s driver, who was only identified as Kobi, and three members of the governor’s police security detail: Staff Sgt. Mohammad Jurai Adiong, Cpl. Johanie Sumandar, and Cpl. Jalil Cosain.

Adiong and another aide, Ali Macapado Tabao, sustained gunshot wounds during the ambush, which took place near the boundary of Lanao del Sur and Bukidnon on Friday, Feb. 17.

The LPP also called on the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police to expedite their investigation into the brazen attempt on Adiong’s life — “to make those responsible for the dastard act be made accountable the soonest time.”

Other issues

Among the other issues the LPP talked about was their collective support for Surigao del Norte Gov. Lyndon Barbers, who was earlier required to secure a mayor’s permit before holding a surfing competition in the province.

The LPP also adopted a resolution to raise this concern with Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. “for his consideration and appropriate action.”
