Woman, 2 kids perish in Pasay City blaze

MANILA, Philippines — A woman and her two children were trapped to death inside their residence when fire broke out in Pasay City Tuesday morning.

Citing a report from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Pasay City Public Information Office (PIO) said the fire hit a residential area in Barangay 117, Malibay at around 9:50 a.m. 

The fire reached the first alarm before it was extinguished at around 10:16 a.m.

Government and volunteer firefighters, however, found the charred remains of Mary Ann Maglinaw, 29, and her children, Xzavion Rivas, 2, and Evzekhion Rivas, 5.

At least six families were displaced by the blaze, according to the Pasay City PIO. 

Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano, who had visited the area following the fire, said the local government will extend financial assistance to the victims. 

Other forms of aid like free burial services, financial grants and other social services will also be available for them through various government programs, she added.
