Over 180,000 residents in Ilocos region register to vote

At least 189,785 residents in the Ilocos region registered as voters from Dec. 12 last year to Jan. 31, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte—At least 189,785 residents in the Ilocos region registered as voters from Dec. 12 last year to Jan. 31, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

The Comelec data showed that Pangasinan province has the highest number of residents who filed their applications as regular voters and the 15–17 age group who will vote in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

Pangasinan province listed 79,504 regular voters, followed by Ilocos Sur with 17,439 , La Union with 17,093, and Ilocos Norte with 13,471.

Pangasinan recorded 37,368 voters for the 15–17 age group, while Ilocos Sur has 9,739, La Union has 8,107, and Ilocos Norte has 7,064, the Comelec data showed.

Before the new applications are added to the database of registered voters, the election registration board will have to act on their applications for approval or disapproval.

The board will convene in the region on March 6, the Comelec said, adding that they are eyeing to finalize the list of registered voters in the region by March 30.

The barangay and SK elections are set for October 2023.

In the May 2022 elections, Ilocos Norte will have around 3.6 million registered voters.
