MANILA, Philippines — Five fishermen were rescued from a sunken motor banca in the waters off Mansalay town in Oriental Mindoro, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Monday.

The five fishermen were Edmon Manato, 52; Jaybee Manato, 22; Rocky Madera, 23; Allen Dela Cruz, 23; and Ernie Merida, 51 .

Their motor banca, La Capitana, sank at around 9 a.m. on Sunday when they ran into severe weather.

The PCG said the incident happened at around nine in the morning on Sunday.

The rescue was conducted by members of the Coast Guard Sub-station Roxas, the Coast Guard K9 Team in Roxas, the Coast Guard Special Operation Unit in Roxas, the Maritime Police, and the Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office in Bansud.

They found the fishermen after five hours of searching, according to the PCG.

“They are now in good condition. They were immediately taken to the Oriental Mindoro Southern District Hospital for medical attention,” the PCG said.
