COVID-19 hits 895 more in PH from February 13-19

MANILA, Philippines — The coronavirus infected 895 more people in the country from February 13-19, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday.

Based on the DOH’s latest weekly COVID-19 bulletin, the total number of fresh cases translated to a daily average of 128 – 19 percent lower than the 157 daily average recorded from February 6-12 which had 1,101 new infections.

Only three of the new cases were tagged as critical or severe, driving severe COVID-19 admissions to 406 as of February 19.

Meanwhile, 74 deaths were added to the country’s coronavirus death toll last week. This is lower than the reported death cases the week prior at 98. As of February 19, the sum of fatalities due to COVID-19 stood at 66,021.

According to the DOH, four of the 74 died in the past two weeks while the rest were backlogs reported as far back as July 2020.

But despite the decrease in fresh infections, the utilization of ICU beds for COVID-19 patients slightly rose from 14.2 percent to 14.9 percent from February 13-19. The utilization rate of non-ICU beds, on the other hand, dropped from 19.6 to 18.9 percent during the period.

In terms of vaccination progress, a total of 13,855 people became fully vaccinated with the primary series of COVID-19 vaccines last week. This made the total number of fully vaccinated individuals in the country hit 73,873,958.

As for newly-boosted individuals, the DOH said 49,189 received their booster doses from February 13-19 increasing the total to 21,500,083.

113 new cases reported Monday

Meanwhile, 113 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Monday, Feb. 20, which is less than the average number of infections recorded from Feb. 13 to 19.

Based on the COVID-19 online tracker, this brought the country’s active cases to 9,198, with the total caseload now at 4,075,545.

Deaths, on the other hand, now total 66,030.

Metro Manila continued to lead the list of regions with the highest number of infections in the past two weeks at 440, followed by Calabarzon with 198, and Davao region with 191.
