LUCENA CITY — Authorities rescued early Monday, Feb. 20, four crew members and two passengers from a sinking cargo boat in the seas off Quezon province.
In a report, the Quezon police said rescuers from Quezon town on Alabat Island off the Pacific Ocean saved around 9:30 a.m. Bembo Panol, boat captain of MV Rome Rhona, his three unidentified crew, and two passengers.
The report said the boat was loaded with empty liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and was spotted slowly sinking in the territorial waters of Barangay Cagbalugo.
Rescuers from the local disaster management office and police rushed to the site, successfully saving the boat passengers and bringing them to safety.
The police said the boat left Quezon town port around 8 a.m. It was reportedly battered by strong waves that damaged its hull, causing it to submerge slowly.
The boat crew and passengers were not injured in the incident, the police said. INQ
