23 rescued from sinking boat off Quezon

LUCENA CITY — At least 23 passengers of a sinking boat were rescued in the waters off Infanta town in Quezon province on Tuesday, police said on Wednesday.

A report from the Infanta police said the passengers of MB Recto bound for Barangay Calasumanga in Panukulan town on Polillo Island were saved by crew members and passengers of the vessel Syvel 5, which was bound for the same town.

Reports said water started filling MB Recto, causing it to sink. Tatiana Nolledo, a teacher in Panukulan and one of the passengers of Syvel 5, said MB Recto left Dinahican port at 2:30 p.m.

Their boat left the port 15 minutes later. Philippine Coast Guard personnel helped bring rescued passengers back to port. Delfin T. Mallari Jr.
