MANILA, Philippines — A 63-year-old senior citizen from Davao del Sur who “never worked in her life” and only tended to her family’s needs won the over P35 million Lotto 6/4 jackpot prize, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) announced Tuesday.

The winner recently claimed her prize at the PCSO Main Office in Mandaluyong City.

PCSO disclosed that the winner’s only source of income is her late husband’s pension.

“She has never worked in her life because she needs to care for her family, including her grandchildren. Her only source of income is his late husband’s SSS pension. Every Sunday, she serves as a lector commentator at church,” the statement reads.

According to PCSO, the winning numbers drawn last Jan. 17 were not the combination that the winner usually bets on.

“Ngayon ko lamang po tinayaan ang kumbinasyon ng mga numero na ito,” she said.

(This is my first time betting on these numbers.)

Based on the Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law, 20 percent tax will automatically be deducted from the winner’s jackpot prize.

Meanwhile, the agency reminded future winners that “winnings should be claimed within one year from the date of draw, otherwise the same would be forfeited to form part of PCSO Charity Fund.”
