LOOK: Angkas riders serenade a lady in public this Valentine’s Day
MANILA, Philippines — This group of Angkas riders made hearts flutter at a restaurant in Makati after surprising an unsuspecting woman with a “harana”– a traditional Filipino way to win a woman’s heart — in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
In the video, the lady can be seen having a meeting when suddenly out of nowhere, the group of Angkas riders appeared. Upon closer look, one would recognize that the lead singer of the group is none other than Angkas CEO George Royeca and the lady being serenaded is his wife, Angkas Founder Angeline Tham.
With a bouquet of flowers on one hand, Royeca started his harana with John Legend’s ‘All of Me’ followed by ‘Mabagal’, popularized by Daniel Padilla and Moira dela Torre. Before ending the kilig Valentine’s Day surprise, Royeca asked Tham for a dance, much to the delight of onlookers.
“I have never done this before. I was so nervous. This is the first time hinarana ko si Angie. I want to show her how we, Filipino men, really go the extra mile to express our love and gratitude for our special someone. Sabi nga nila basta daw rider, sweet lover. Actually, basta Pinoy, sweet lover,” said Royeca when asked for comment.
Tham, on the other hand, was ecstatic with the surprise. “It’s a delight to learn about Filipino culture on Valentine’s Day. Really grateful for my husband’s surprise. Now, I’ve proven that Filipinos are really good singers. I didn’t know our Angkas riders could sing! I truly enjoyed it,” said Tham, who, apparently is also celebrating her birthday today.
