Magnitude 4.6 earthquake hits Camarines Norte

UPDATED MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit Camarines Norte on Tuesday night, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The earthquake was initially reported by state seismologists as magnitude 5.1, but was revised to 4.6  in a bulletin at 11:19 p.m. on the same day.

The quake happened at 9:46 p.m., its epicenter at 10 kilometers northeast of Tinaga Island, in Vinzons town in Camarines Norte.

Intensity IV was felt in Daet, Mercedes, Talisay, and Vinzons, Camarines Norte. This is classified by Phivolcs as “moderately strong” and “felt generally by people indoors and by some people outdoors.”

No damage or aftershocks are expected, said Phivolcs.

The tectonic earthquake’s depth of focus was 1 kilometer.
