BACOLOD CITY — The Negros Occidental Provincial Legal Office (PLO) was directed to investigate the former acting treasurer of Isabela for the loss of government funds amounting to more than P6.4 million.
“We have received the official endorsement for appropriate legal action,” Provincial Legal Officer Alberto Nellas said on Monday, Feb. 6.
Former Isabela acting municipal treasurer Nenette Mandadero Escarda claimed that government funds, which she brought to this city to be deposited in a bank, were stolen on Jan. 21 from her house at Las Palmas Subdivision in Barangay Taculing.
Isabela Mayor Irene Montilla said about P3.8 million in checks and P2.6 million in cash were gone.
The Commission on Audit is also investigating the missing funds from the town treasury, Provincial Treasurer Amy Grace Bolivar said.
Montilla had asked Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson for assistance in the investigation, which was endorsed to the PLO for action.
The results of the investigation and recommendations will be forwarded to Montilla, the disciplining authority of Escarda.
