BI nabs Japanese fugitive in Manila
MANILA, Philippines – A Japanese fugitive wanted in his country for alleged involvement in illegal recruitment and fabrication of official documents has been arrested in Manila, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Friday.
Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said the BI fugitive search unit collared Amano Mototaka, 50, along Arellano Avenue in Sta. Ana on Monday.
The arrest came after a summary court in Nagoya, Japan issued an arrest order on Amano in September last year, but according to the BI, he fled to the Philippines to evade authorities.
“We issued a mission order for his arrest after we received information from Japanese authorities that he is a wanted criminal, set to stand trial in Japan for his alleged crimes,” Tansingco said in a statement.
Citing Amano’s records, the BI said Amano is accused of forging entries in legitimate electromagnetic notarized deeds and selling them, an offense that is punishable under the penal code of Japan.
