Body of woman found in Northern Samar excavation

The province of Northern Samar was placed under a state of calamity on Monday, Jan. 16, due to the damage it sustained from the heavy rains spawned by a trough of a low pressure area (LPA).

ORMOC CITY — The body of a woman was found floating in an excavated foundation of a telecommunication firm in Barangay Dalakit, Catarman town, Northern Samar on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Merlinda Sumayod De Paz, 53, and a resident of the village.

Police report showed that they received a call from a concerned citizen regarding the discovery of a woman’s body at around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Investigators immediately proceeded to the place to determine the veracity of the report.

Upon arrival in the area, the police officers found the body of De Paz.

An initial investigation conducted by the local police disclosed that the victim was walking in area which was very muddy due to the continuous rain in the past days.

The police said that while walking, the victim accidentally slipped and fell into the excavation filled with water and drowned.

The body of the victim was brought by Catarman rescue group to a funeral parlor for post-mortem examination.
